Check cartridge OAL specs for the caliber and measure the offending boolits with a caliper. Probably too long. If reloads, could also be a poochy case that didn't go through the resizing die.

Pro tip: Next time try holding the slide and whacking the back of the grip with the web of your other hand. Like gripping it, but bashing instead. Source: many stuck boolits

thanks for the tips, I'm definitely going to get to the bottom of it. I am very not ok with my firearm not being 100% dependable.

I learnted boolits at the WECSOG. If the rounds are in spec, you'll get to send some fun emails to the manf. about your poopoo pistol. If it's a racy 1911, might just be tolerance stacking, too. Maybe pants a P30 or M&P or something in the meantime. Pretty scary, and fortunate it was on the range when you found out. Good luck on the troubleshooting mission.

It was not on the range, it was in my office. So it was scary. But I resolved it with some careful vigor.
