Magnets, projectiles and power sources running through my mind lately. Future gun?
Lets figure a tube with a negative charge and a positively charged "bullet" at time of fire energize a stronger positively charged magnet to propel it out of barrel. The bullet is suspended in air due to opposite charges in barrel.

Maybe, need to brush up on my physics and see how strong magnet to "throw" a bullet and how much power to generate it. 10,000 gigawatts in a handheld device is a scary thought
Its just a path to start down no need to continue to completion but maybe it will lead to a even better idea.
You are describing a rail gun.
In your scenario the bullet would need fins to impart spin for distance and accuracy. Also, a group of magnets along the barrel triggering in rapid succession will increase acceleration.

Take the top off and its an EM catapult like they use on carriers.
