How to vlog

1. Make Nostr account

2. Post video to plebs.app

3. Your RSS feed is available at castr.me

4. ???

5. Profit ⚑

Plebs has built in video compression too. That could help a lot of people out. Interoperability is nice when it works πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘Œ

didnt think vlogs would be the thing to get yall excited about RSS but I'll take it :)

I probably won't be doing it myself, but with these two sites it's pretty easy to get going.

i only got one for your nostr:npub1tn2lspfvv7g7fpulpexmjy6xt4c36h6lurq2hxgyn3sxf3drjk3qrchmc3 and everything else I could care less about tbh but its cool it works

Oh yeah it's cool. I'm happy to have an RSS for movie archive πŸ’― Probably won't be vlogging much though.

Woah, this is sick

A good pronunciation disagreement is good. Vlog like blog it is πŸ˜‚

It's not just for vlogs. *Any* video content you post gets added to an RSS feed with castr.me. Music vids, full movies, your shit posts, all of it. Makes it readily available to people not yet in the Nostr ecosystem.

The compression is a cool idea. But it looks pretty rough and if you are watching on a high speed connection you can afford the higher resolution. Can you make this so that it only shows a compressed version if the bandwidth is low?

Not currently. Nostr isn't set up for that, no centralized server to hold multiple copies of the same video and serve the correct one depending on device and available bandwidth. YouTube and others preprocess the video on their servers, encoding the different versions beforehand.

Seems like something that needs to be sorted out.

This is unfortunately the caveat with decentralized services. In order to upload the video across multiple blossom servers to ensure censorship-resistance, the videos must be 100mb in size. We add automatic compression in order to allow larger videos to be upload if someone is unable or doesn’t know how to compress beforehand.
