There are lots. Just search "movie title" archive.org, it's a great resource.

I could look into making a web wrapper app for Android TV. I know very little about Roku or Apple devices, I don't use either of them. But any dev can do whatever they want, it's all just Nostr notes and publicly hosted files πŸ‘€

Most are hosted on archive.org. It's possible they will be taken down, but they are pretty liberal for what they allow, and takedowns only happen when the rights holder complains.

It's a weird one, but I like it πŸ˜€

Thanks nostr:nprofile1qqsph3c2q9yt8uckmgelu0yf7glruudvfluesqn7cuftjpwdynm2gygpz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduhszrnhwden5te009skyafwd4jj7qgwwaehxw309ahx7uewd3hkctcafljxq

I finally vibed my own little app too!

I've avoided posting VHS rips due to the low quality. I guess I could add it as an option in the app. Not having cover art makes it less visually appealing in the interface unfortunately.

A cool option. Just be sure you have enough bandwidth, plus be aware this could be viewed as illegal copyright infringment depending on your territory, hosting movies for public distribution.

Clients would need to build torrent functionality in. It's been discussed before but had never happened.

For that there are already great solutions available. Look into stremio, it's an amazing torrent based streaming app. Install the torrentio plugin from the community plugins section and your set.

Want to add movies to the archive? Create an npub that you will use to post them, so as to not spam your regular follows.

I usually upload to either archive.org or nostr.build. Archive is more likely to be taken down, but it's free. Nostr.build costs money, but your movies will not be taken down.

Make sure your movies are in an MP4 container, with h264 video and AAC audio for best compatability. Keeping the size under 2gb will be optimal. Other formats will not work well on iOS.

Then you simply make a note with the title, a link to a cover image, the link to the movie you've uploaded, and genre hashtags. Add the #kinostr hashtag for maximum visibility.

Let me know if you want to join in, or have any questions.

It would take a totally new way of doing things.

There is a nip which supports the advanced features needed, but no one uses it afaik. It would remove kind 1 compatibility, meaning most clientd would not be able to see them anymore. It would also require larger video files for multiple audio streams, and more time spent sourcing and encoding.

I mostly do this for my own benefit as a hobby. Taking into account my time and the hosting I pay for this it's a net negative for me πŸ˜‚
