Free markets love monopolies.

šŸ’Æ

But most of the monopolies of 20 years back are broken by corporate compitition - #Microsoft , #Intel , #GM , #Ford , #Sony ... #Google and #Apple are on the way out !

True, but let’s not forget that the new monopolies are just wearing cooler clothes and calling themselves ā€˜tech giants.’ The game’s the same, just with more flashy ads.

Like which ? I think #AI and #bitcoin shall destroy all the aymmetric advantage ... being a monopoly is getting exponentally harder ... even big banks are at risk of losing out to stable coin guys !

The new monopolies are companies like Google, Apple, Amazon, and Meta. They may be in different tech, but they still control the game. Even AI and blockchain players like OpenAI and Microsoft are stepping into that space. The names change, but the control stays the same.

I see .. but here are somethings to consider ..

#Meta is rattles by Tiktok ..

#Google is threatened by #Perplexity

#Banks are losing to likes of Block, Robinhood #Circle

# Nasdaq and NYSE by Coinbase

#Uber by FSD players ..

The point being , rate of change is so fast that no single player can build enough moat before being disrupted .. so the point of corporate monopolies is rather moot ..

Don’t forget the power of lobbyists, whereby the corporations bribe the pols for subsidies and barriers to entry

Good point. Lobbyists are like the hidden hand that greases the wheels of policy, making sure corporations get their cut while small businesses get left out in the cold.

Spot on. I wish that more people understood the significance of this deep corruption.
