What's the best iPhone 'deep storage' wallet setup for my turbo non technical friend? #asknostr

Before you come at me .. there is nooo way he would get sth like a coldcard. Blud doesn't even have online-banking. He has been listening to me talk about #Bitcoin for 5 years and now he wants to stack some Sats.

What he cares about:

- holding his own keys

- easy to understand & use for non technical person

- long term saving

What he cares not so much about:

- doing cheap regular payments

I was thinking about Phoenix but I'm not sure if it's safe/reasonable to have several thousands of dollars in a lightning channel on your phone? Is there a 'deep storage' hot wallet which is only focused on onchain transactions that might be safer than Phoenix?

Let's say he stacks 20k USD of Sats. Maybe 1k on Phoenix (to play around & learn about Bitcoin transactions) & 19k in the 'deep storage' phone wallet? .. maybe do a Bitkey setup for the 19k? .. any suggestions fellow plebs.

Would appreciate an assesment from king nostr:npub1az9xj85cmxv8e9j9y80lvqp97crsqdu2fpu3srwthd99qfu9qsgstam8y8 ?

Mk4 with sparrow, cold storage and have him do the due diligence to learn, and secure this setup. Well worth the investment in time and knowledge.

Maybe Bitkey. But start learning cold storage

One way https://x.com/nvk/status/1544842230350880769?s=46

But still think ppl should make the effort to use a real hww

Thanks, Sir!

Depending on the region of the world your friend lives in, there are enough good non-custodial wallets out there. Some of these are "Relai" (Switzerland), "Aqua" (Jan3), "Green" (Blockstream). These are all relatively simple, have a nice interface, trustworthy companies behind them and they explain self-custody good enough.
