Ok #bitcoin community, what is your best, fastest way to get your brain to read how many sats? Count groups of three after the decimal? Literally count 8 decimals?

Seems like the more places i try and jump to save time reading, the harder it is to follow. Maybe just because i’m always dealing with tiny amounts haha so there is always a lot of zeros and they blend together when you are trying to glance over them 😅🤷‍♂️

Just trying to switch my brain as much as possible over time. I’m sure others are wondering the same thing. Thanks in advance for any tips/tricks!

100000000 sats = 1btc

Yea i’m good with that part, its just the part of physically reading the number on the page. Doing that conversion in my head, you know? You are never (I wish! 😅) dealing with EXACTLY 100,000,000 sats

I know what you mean. I’m trying lol. I always revert to an app

Yea same haha. Thats what i’m trying to avoid as time goes on. As the world switches, i want to already be fully comfortable….and not look like a dunce when i don’t have time to google “sats converter” 😂😅

Well I can help you with the Google part. But not the maths.😆 There is an app called Satoshi Converter. Also nostr:npub1reezn2ctrrg736uqj7mva9lsuwv0kr5asj4vvkwxnrwlhvxf98tsq99ty4 has an iPhone widget which displays sats/fiat

For what its worth, while i’ve been trying to practice myself, the “3-3-2” counting across method seems to work best for me. But like i said, so many zeros at the start always throw off my brains place in the count 😂

I’m thinking maybe just a “2-4-6-8” count across the number would be the best combo of speed and carefulness

I've built a tool for myself where I can drag arround boxes or add more currencies to get different conversions. BTC and SAT can't be dragged away to remove them but other currencies can be dragged to the side to be removed.

The api price provider is #sintra https://satoshi.si/converter.html

Thats great! Envy those who can just build stuff for themselves haha.

But does that only show relative pricing pegged to one another, or can you enter in differing amounts of any/each currency?

Only first box on top can be edited so you need to move some other on top to be edited.

Yea thats kinda along the lines I was thinking! I like the “2-3-3” they have it pictured. That helps to get at least two of the zeros quickly and easily out of the way mentally, and makes it easier to read thousands and hundreds of thousands that way.

So if i’m glancing at it and it seems like a larger sats number based on which decimal places have zeros, i’ll go with the “2-3-3”. And if it looks like a smaller sats number, i’ll go with either the “3-3-2” method to get through the zeros faster and see what the final one or two sats digits are. Might see if my brains likes this or the “2-2-2-2”counting better for the smaller amounts. But yea, either way, so far i like the “2-3-3” reading for regular or larger sats amounts.

Thanks for the link! ⚡️ 🤙

This seems like it would be a really helpful and reasonable standard, but i just haven’t seen it used anywhere, or haven’t noticed since my brain has been doing its own “flippening” 😂

….sorry, not sure which Mark, if they are on here haha

I try to look at groups of 4, but it doesn't always work without holding a finger or cursor up as a placeholder, depending on the font and stuff. Had to do that with the image you posted here

Haha yea, exactly my problem!! 4 is too many places for my brain to jump without something as a place marker. Especially when most of the numbers are the same! (Aka 0 haha)

But at a glance, still way too difficult. But you should try the “2-3-3” or the “3-3-2” technique we were talking about in one of the other replies 🤙

I feel I would mess up those ones by being 1 digit off on one of the shifts occasionally, without realizing it. 4x4 forces me to use a thumb or cursor if it's not clear enough 🙏

Yea i guess as a failsafe. That makes sense

11.4e-6 ?

Correct!!! Haha

Yea, but how did you get your brain to read that when you first looked at it? Or did you need to use visual queues like your mouse curser/finger/etc?
