Twitter going down highlights the need for decentralized social communication, but most won't understand. If censorship didn't entice them, this won't either. Keep building.

Proof of X doesn’t work

Proof of Work, but with low standards.

It's like in any form of communism. A few are great, 99% not.

Hmm. Working and great are very different. And even with working, there are varying degrees of working. Maybe on paper Communism "works", but in practice it's horrible.

I was born in communism. I had enough. 🤮

Are you out now?

Yup. We spilled our share of blood when I was 11 yo.

Communism meaning the utopian idea of a society where the means of production are owned collectively, without money class or any form of state. 🤔 I can't think of a single example in living memory.

Cuba and Vietnam have achieved socialism.

Obviously Libya was the closest thing to communism in living memory but even Libya was just libertarian socialism.

Technically before agriculture all human societies were communist but that was like 15 thousand years ago.

Yes, basically this GIF.

Correct. It's like saying email could go down. Sure, some email apps or websites could go down, but many others exist and people can run their own. Nostr is no different here.

Any idea what's missing from Nostr that centralized social networks have? What makes people still prefer X over Nostr?

User experience, usability, and the network affect.

So it's just an UI problem, right? Do we need a better UI/UX? Why not just "copy" an already proven UI like X's? I've tried several Nostr clients, they although similar to X's interface, are still very different, and none fully satisfy me.

Damus and Primal are similar in UI and UX, do function well now, and have unique features that can't be found elsewhere. I'd like to believe it's just a matter of people trying these apps out again and seeing how much they have improved over the last two years.

Primal for example, should really hit home how powerful it can be to fully control and setup your various feeds from the marketplace. In app breadcrumbs should walk users through all of this for the very first time.

Damus should change their hashtag suggestions around to make Nostr look like it's dead and no one is using it, perhaps focus on content discovery and user discovery more.

I think all apps need to handle posting images and videos better.

What about deleting/editing notes? Many social media users would like to delete or edit their notes. Or even have the ability to "delete an account". Are they discouraged by the fact that they will probably never be able to edit or delete what they have posted on Nostr? While some relays have the ability to delete and edit notes, there is still no such functionality in the Primal interface, for example.

Some clients allow for editing and deletions but others view this as an attack vector. It's a complicated subject.

Key management needs to be easier for non-bitcoin nerds. NIP7 is a good start, but few clients use it.

Twitter and FB are already established.

I've found nostr to be a perfect replacement for both.

What do you mean go down? Twitter didn't go down it just rebranded. It's called X now and it's still up.

Twitter was down earlier, meaning it couldn't be accessed. Most tech news websites reported it and I couldn't get it to load either when I tested.

It will always be Twitter. Just like saying Fetch, it's not going to happen.

Ok I understand the first part. I didn't know it went down. Yes you are right, Nostr can't go down because it's decentralized.

But the second part is wrong. It will not always be twitter because they rebranded. It's X now. You're just being silly because you hate X so much. I hate X too but the reality of it is that it's called X now.

Ecks is a stupid name

a rose by any other name, is still just that... the rose. likewise, the bird app will always be.

Facebook too.

Exactly centralized platforms are a single point of failure. Decentralized is the future, but people won’t care until they’re forced to. What projects are you building to push this forward.

Who hack X today ?

based anonymous hacked X; based nostr is anonymous.

Gradually then suddenly for sure
