Watching “Rose Red” on Netflix. Go figure, as with everything, it has me thinking about Bitcoin.
I’m a huge fan of the horror genre, but particularly I’ve always found the concept of exchanging a piece of yourself in exchange for “wishes” or power an entertaining narrative theme at worst, and an extremely intriguing philosophical exercise when done at its best.
That exchange in this show, as I watch, makes me think about how Bitcoin found a way - somehow - to take the worst of us via our greed, a need for endless wealth and money, etc…and over time slowly but surely changes us; it tweaks us ever so slightly, and cures us of our want for infinite money and consumption the longer we study and understand it. It knows how to pull us in initially - the promise of true everlasting wealth - but then over time makes us the best version of ourselves.
There will never be another invention like it. And there will certainly never be something that has such a profoundly positive impact on our incentives.
