According to a quick search Japan is only 38% self sufficient in terms of food.
But locally where i am the bulk of our products are domestic.
Electronics wise there are some good options. Obviously, cars, plenty to choose from.

Japan imports a lot of energy. 2011 caused a lot of nuclear to go offline
I just searched that Japan also imports 90% of its energy needs too. Crazy.
Yeah itās up there. Not good. Wish we had more safe nuclear options going online. But, Iām sure many people are thinking about these things.
One thing to note, a lot of the new construction comes with solar.
I think 1/3 of all homes are net zero energy. And the goal is for 2/3. It seems to be well on its way there.
Thatās impressive.
I should say ānew homesā. But itās even a trend with old homes too.
So Japanās extremely vulnerable then to geopolitics issues/dynamics? As, they import almost all of their energy and food needs.
Yeah. And with climate change itās even worse because rice yields are lagging. Japan just recently had to open up the national rice reserves due to shortages.
We got seafood going for us, and do ok with poultry and pork. Beef lags but we have the best beef in the world.
And then thereās the demographic issue too.
