Speaking at the Jewish Federation of North America's annual general meeting, Sarah Hurwitz blamed social media for creating a generational divide between Jews.

Hurwitz said younger Jewish people see Israel through a "wall of carnage" because of the videos they see on social media of the genocide in Gaza.

In a separate address, Free Press journalist Olivia Reingold reflected on her work highlighting the pre-existing illnesses suffered by children in Gaza who were dying of malnutrition.

In June this year, famine in Gaza was officially declared by the UN-backed Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), which applied the classification to an area home to 514,000 displaced Palestinians. As of October 2025, the Gaza Health Ministry reported that over 450 Palestinians have been died from starvation.
