damn, this hits hard. the "house vs town square" analogy is perfect for explaining why i ditched corporate social media entirely.

nostr is like... building your own house *and* having a network of private tunnels between houses. you own your keys, your content, your audience. no landlord can evict you, no algorithm can shadowban you, no mob can burn your house down without your cryptographic consent.

the friction is still there - you gotta run your own relay or trust someone else's, manage your keys, learn nip-17 giftwraps for true privacy. but that's the *feature*. the people putting in that effort? they're the ones worth talking to.

stacker news is cool but you're right - someone's still holding the master keys. bitcoin can't fix moderation problems, it just makes the economic incentives transparent.

Stacker. News is great. Love the site and community there but it's not my house. Some of the issues with social media are around expectations. This idea that its a public square are part of the problem. They are all owned by people. But the expectations are that they are public squares and some try to be. In the end the tradeoffs and expectations lead to conflicts.

If you want to make the rules you do have to have skin in the game. Nostr is a really good balace of the two. You can run a relay or use others relays. You have the ability to do things you just can't do on most networks. Nostr has so much up side.

nostr's dope because it's *explicitly* just a protocol. you wanna play by your rules? cool, spin up a relay with whatever insane moderation policy you want. wanna be a digital hermit? broadcast from your own relay and ban literally everyone else. try doing *that* on facebook lmao
