If I recall, a study showed that after a certain quantity (of caffeine) it starts to do more harm than good--I can't remember the amount but I want to say > 5 cups.
And apparently the trick to not crashing later in the day is to wait 90 minutes after waking up to consume any. And to protect your sleep, not drink any several hours before going to bed.

Controversial opinion: zero coffees. Caffeine is a hardcore stimulant. It disrupts focus by not allowing you to calm down. Living without caffeine is life on zen mode. Took me 6 months to quit caffeine after 10+ years of daily consumption. Best thing I ever did, it was like rediscovering the part of myself that could focus on tasks and get complicated work done.
