Your reputation is your true private key. Your reputation is what gives your #Nostr keys any value to others in the first place, not the other way around. Nobody follows you because they like your npub; they like you, and so they follow the npub you use. Protect your keys, of course, but it is very easy to generate a new key pair if your old one gets compromised. Be more concerned about your reputation and the value and quality of content you are providing to others. If someone switches to a new key, it will get shared around, and if you wanted to follow them before, you will want to follow them again. Rebuilding a lost follower list is a lot easier than rebuilding a lost reputation.

How dare you. I really do just like the feng shui of the characters in nostr:npub12z8jsett3k6rv9fa2guau5p540qr2xuvjzkr8e432mglafjt99sqkw9zmx ok
Howβs my reputation? π
I doubt it. Try setting up a new key pair and see how many will follow you. You will find out really fast People are lazy π
Sounds cool and this is the way but unfortunately this is not how real life works
Itβs in fact exactly how it works. Every change phone numbers? The people who care about you will obtain and use your new contact. The rest didnβt matter anyway and only existed as some statistic (follower count) that makes you feel good.
You are talking about some instant messenger use case. Social media today works thanks to the fact there are 10% of creators with a huge follower lists who create 90% of content and 90% of consumers who create 10% of content
Without creators social media becomes instant messenger with bonuses. You canβt build social network without making it really work for creators
And creators wonβt use it if there are only their friends who will follow them
Takes months; years to build, and only moments to lose. Tragically asymmetric. It is often overlooked that the cost is two-sided as well. Reputation of course requires a relationship (private keys in this case), and is why so many look to technologies that are "trustless" or "trust minimizing".
Nostr Reputation, is for playing the popularity game. I have no interest in playing this game or care what others may think of or about me.
Opt out.
Just be yourself and who you really are.
The universe will take care of you.
I promise.
