My friend that had two dead Lightning channels was able to manually recover his 6M sats by manually creating and signing the transactions to do so. This was only possible because he knew the two other parties, contacted them, and gave them the transactions to broadcast.

Never overlook the importance of having the ability to contact your channel partners and have partners who you at least get the impression they'll be helpful in a bad scenario.

Absolutely. Great work brother πŸ’œπŸ€™πŸ»πŸ«‚

why, isn't force close working?

Not entirely sure. My friends node was offline when two of his channel partner shut down their nodes. Months later my friend fixed his node, tries to force close all of the channels, and those two just won't close.

Both nodes were dead with no access to the commitment transactions. Only thing remaining was seed phrases with channels still active.

how could a node be dead as that no commitment transactions accessable?

Glad the sats were not burned

Don’t retired lighting channels automatically return the sats?
