Japan is a special place. Asia has some awesome countries though. Vietnam is one of my favorites.

That was on my list, was thinking maybe Ho Chi Minh CIty or Phú Quốc. I am really all over the place clearly.
Skip Phu quoc. If you want to do something super unique do the "Ha Giang Loop" by motorbike. The most incredible landscapes and you stay in little indigenous villages.
Might have to make that a whole trip of its own. I’m now kind of looking at seeing more of Japan outside of Tokyo and taking advantage of the rail pass. Thinking of visiting at least kamakura, Kyoto , Nara and Osaka and possibly more.
