I saw some people being upset at Mutiny for being web-based (due to security concerns, phishing scams etc).

What are your thoughts on this?

Part of me thinks it’s ok. It’s a trade-off for convenience. People shouldn’t have large amounts of sats in a spending wallet anyway.

I appreciate the warnings, but they think people are going to put their life savings on a web wallet and are sacred of that happening again like they did with monero apparently.

Yeah I’m glad those people exist - we need someone to be paranoid for us.

I understand Mutiny's use case but I tend to avoid browser based wallets, just because I have to be extra aware when using it.

Seperate apps give peace of mind & less attack surface to others.

People are still going to use it on their phone so how that works / functions will be all that matters. As far as security and loss of funds people will get burnt until they understand the trade offs. For example you don’t walk around with your life savings in your pocket In cash Different wallets for different needs

I don't see the convenience here compared to using an app.

The only thing it has going for it is that it doesn't run via an app store (uncensorable ish - see piratebay) but the trade-off is auto updates with no control over it, and no way to verify that the code is open source.

Progressive security FTW. Wallets can help people understand if their current security setup is appropriate, and if not, how to adjust. "People shouldn't do X anyways" is a bit of a cop-out, IMHO. It should be very clear if you're putting yourself at high risk. https://bitcoin.design/guide/getting-started/principles/#provide-appropriate-and-progressive-security-for-all-types-of-users
