Hey Linux freaks out there. What’s the best machine to get for a dev machine these days?

Give me 2 different price points. Good value and best outright.

Starlabs laptops

AFAIK only starlabs and purism accept bitcoin.

You need mobility? like a notebook or desktop, I know it's weird but there are some situation (health/focus) that a desktop pc is better. ThinkPad X series is for me always a good choice, but the next time maybe I will check https://frame.work/

Thanks – defintely notebook.

LG gram 16" less than $1100.Super light weight and screen is fantastic.

System76 Pangolin Linux out the box $1200

Not much price differrece but good options.

+1 Lenovo thinkpads. I usually go for the all Intel chipsets.. tho recently I've been kinda wishing I'd got some Nvidia so I could run cuda stuff. Just was such a pita in the past.. (now it's much easier)

I would recommend these builders, because they knew what they do: https://www.tuxedocomputers.com/

If you’re cheap, a used ThinkPad will do.

If you’re not as cheap, new ThinkPads should work based on the love for Linux at r/ThinkPad

I saw most dev YouTubers are using Mac.

Yup – I'm definitely not switching off mac. I was actually asking for a friend. 😅

Well you can use a mac with MacOS and Ubuntu/debian. Why not using the best of both worlds?

A lot of good options here already, but just to throw a curveball into the mix: Steam Deck

Can't beat the price, easy to upgrade, can handle running multiple virtual machines.

Been using one for the last few months as my work pc.
