It depends on which ocean, you come in on. California to here is a little over 1600 km. Florida and New York close to 3057 km. I'd just take a bus, horses are expensive in other states. You'd be able to pick one up here for much cheaper. Unless you have land, boarding horses is expensive.

ok! i could see there was many locks and whatnot and probably further uphill there must be rapids so some paths can't be navigated, but that's not bad eh? sailing that far inland is pretty sweet... i mean, of course it will be running on diesel for that part, this also is why i'm pondering how to deal with the problem that i mean to sail to the New Gulf of America and then diesel my way up the rivers... maybe i'll be better off to switch to a non-sail boat somewhere near the big rivers
No locks. One solution is to portage it with a truck and trailer. You'd have to do that multiple times though. Or just have someone pick you up in Souix City.

yeah, i'll be getting to that when i have the sats together to buy in... being able to lay down the mast would be a pretty important feature combined with a diesel engine... i've seen some awesome old things, might be a hassle at times due to benig old but the prices for old boats is very low and there's plenty around
a sloop that i can lay down the mast to pass low bridges would be a must, i think... and this applies no matter which terrestrial waterways i might think of navigating (got in my mind to look at maybe danube and nile both
