Mining coal seems very dumb when we know how to make nuclear powerplants

We know how to make them but they only have return on investment after >20 years and require a ton of investment and highly specialized manpower.

Unfortunately, practically only States have resources to pull it off.

That's true today, but if we were innovating on this for the last 40 years we would be so good at it by now and can probably do it so cheap.

But instead we're good at communism

True 🤣. To me right now, nuclear plants are one of the few legitimate uses of taxes.
