Chapter 5: onboarding my girlfiend
My girlfriend and I keep our personal finances to ourselves. Once she discovered I bought some bitcoin some years ago she got interested. I never really tried to convince her because I know she does not have spare cash lying around. When she asked me how to buy Bitcoin I told here not to at first. Only invest money you are willing to lose right?
The second time she asked me I saw the Fomo in her eyes and the genuine desire to understand. I learned the hard way not to DCA to a hard wallet (due to UTXO's, I will talk about that later) so I suggested she saves in bitcoin on layer 2. Then she started to ask more questions, nice!
When it was her birthday and couldn't think of a present I decided to create an Aqua wallet for her on her phone which I was allowed access to. Then at the celebration dinner I gave her the 12 words and how to unlock her nice stash on the phone. She was actually over the moon!
What I did not tell her at the time is that I also set up a view-only wallet so I could track her balance. After a nice run up I told her she made X amount of unrealised profit. After explaning what that means she told me: 'darn it - I wish I added more to my stack right away'. A sentiment I think all bitcoiners can relate to.
This might be a good example on how to onboard a person that shows interest! Try it and let me know :)
