So, the doubling in life expectancy in the last hundred years doesn't have anything to do with the deseases like diabetes, dementia, heart desease, etc.? They all appear at advanced age, and 100 years ago people would die of infections, or accidents, etc., before they could develop the old age diseases.

Thanks to vaccinations and much better sanitary, medical, nutritional, etc. conditions, we now live much longer and therefore develop all the old age diseases.

On average people lived shorter because many died early, but bunch of people still lived into old age. And nowadays people are developing heart disease even in their 50s whereas heart disease was extremely rare in any age group, even in 50s and beyond.
