I just went to donate blood. In Italy it is quite common, you get a free breakfast (since you are not supposed to eat before donating) and a paid day off from work.
How does it work in other countries?

In US you get a cookie. 🍪
🤣
How amazing is that.
We only get tea and biscuits.
You're not supposed to eat before donating? Here in France they insist on you eating before and after the donation, all they provide free stuff for you to eat on site.
Well, I double checked, actually they just ask you to do a "light" breakfast avoiding milk, yogurt, fat aliments and chocolate. And you should drink plenty of water, the previous day as well.
I remembered wrongly since they always insist to take ample advantage of breakfast. Last time the lady (at the reception there are volunteers) before going put two chocolate bars in my pocket because I had not taken a brioche 😂
Nope, in Italy they don't want you to eat, just an espresso is fine. Perfect for me as that's my breakfast, but I always appreciated a small juice tetrapak and a small sweet after the donation 😂
In the states you get juice and cookies. One super big and corrupt non-profit is federally mandated to collect blood for the whole country. It's illegal to pay blood donors. There is a perpetual "shortage" of blood. I wonder why...? 🤔
I used to donate but I quit. The system is fucked. Stop feeding it.
In the States it's chips, juice, and sometimes a free t-shirt. Ever since the COVID-19 lockdowns, though, they've started giving a 20 dollar gift card too.
