Agree Tassie Pinot Noirs are beautiful. If you get the chance try some from the Adelaide Hills (Ashton Hills is beautiful).

Barossa is amazing. The small boutique wines are often the best. Cellar door only.

We tend to export our bulk produced wine and keep the best for locals.

My favourite wine is Wild Witch from Kellermeister. It’s a Barossa shiraz and it’s superb. Having said that, everyone’s taste buds are different!

What I love about SA wine is their constant innovation. We have a dedicated wine research institute that regularly runs blind tastings to test new grape varieties, the impact of tasting notes and blind tastings to match with food types. I’m a very willing Guinea pig!

I love that you are a chef and a sommelier!!! Guessing that would make you excellent at wine food pairings! đź’ś

Hi nostr:npub1el3mgvtdjpfntdkwq446pmprpdv85v6rs85zh7dq9gvy7tgx37xs2kl27r

If you are near a Dan Murphy’s I would recommend these SA wines:

Whites

Shaw and Smith Sav Blanc

Chalk Hill Vermentino (crisp)

Chalk Hill Fiano

Penfolds Bin 311 Chardonnay (I’m not a big Chardy fan but this one is actually good)

Yalumba Virgilius Viognier (pricey for a white but it’s yum)

Reds

Ashton Hills Estate Pinot Noir

Kay Brothers Basket Press Shiraz (good value for $)

Bowen Estate Cab Sav (good value for $)

Chateau Tanunda old vine Cab Shiraz

Saltram Mamre Brook Shiraz (this one is not for everyone as it’s very minerally and so feels a little chalky. It’s definitely a love it or hate it scenario. I love it)

d’Arenberg Derelict Vineyard Grenache (if you can find it)

Kellermeister Wild Witch Shiraz $$ Penfolds St Henri Shiraz $$

Rockfords (all their reds - much cheaper and better range direct from them. Their Sparkling red is amazing) $$$

These are just some of the wines I like, but they will not be tasty to everyone.

Best way to try SA wines is to come and visit! When you are feeling better and it’s not so cold here, come for a wine tasting holiday!

And now I feel like a glass of wine!!!!! 🍷
