βThe major impediment to justice was a major flaw in the law, a purposeful flaw created by the government. Someone in my position would not even be allowed to argue in court that the disclosures I made to journalists were civically beneficial. Even now, years after the fact, I would not be allowed to argue that the reporting based on my disclosures had caused Congress to change certain laws regarding surveillance, or convinced the courts to strike down a certain mass surveillance program as illegal, or influenced the attorney general and the president of the United States to admit that the debate over mass surveillance was a crucial one for the public to have, one that would ultimately strengthen the country. All these claims would be deemed not just irrelevant but inadmissible in the kind of proceedings that I would face were I to head home. The only thing my government would have to prove in court is that I disclosed classified information to journalists, a fact that is not in dispute. This is why anyone who says I have to come back to the States for trial is essentially saying I have to come back to the States for sentencing, and the sentence would, now as then, surely be a cruel one. The penalty for disclosing top secret documents, whether to foreign spies or domestic journalists, is up to ten years per document.β

Exactly. He knew he was wrong now matter how he justifies it because that's why he fled. He was young and the court would take that into account.

His biggest fear is Big Bubba, not the justice system. I'm sure he is scared of having to face Big Bubba and dropping the soap while going through the court system, not a trial.
who wants to be ass raped and get aids?
Nobody. That is why I said it's probally his biggest fear. Although, I don't believe he'll have anything to worry about. And it would probably all work out because it's a different culture today. It'll all come out in the wash.
There are court proceedings he could start now in absentia. Although, he would have to initiate everything. It would look better on him if he tried something to make mends. They would allow him to bond.
He could demand extradition in all alleged charges against him and they would have 180 days to transport him or all could be dismissed. Or, he could file civil petitions for protection. You never know unless you try.
i think the us would torture him
Not at all. He's not an enemy combatant. And that is why he should seek protection from the court to ensure his rights aren't violated. He would go through the court process, not be detained by the CIA as a foreign citizen.
Let's be honest, if he lost in court, he wouldn't get much time being young and a first offense.
um julian assange has been tortured, @npub1sn0wdenkukak0d9dfczzeacvhkrgz92ak56egt7vdgzn8pv2wfqqhrjdv9 would certainly be tortured
Not at all. That's an illusion. He would not be tortured.
sure just trust the most untrustworthy nation on earth
I do. I would. I have faith in our court system. He's simply scared of his own shadow. There is nothing to worry about. He'd be home before he knew it writing a new book on his journey.
the us court system is objectively corrupt and unjust
That sounds like brainwashing bylines. There is nothing to be scared of. You know you want to come home. Just do it and get it over with. It's only time.
only a fool throws himself to the lions, hopefully a just president pardons him, but when not even elected officials can rein in the criminal behaviour of the us gov there is little hope
He'll never get a pardon unless he faces the music.
You should change your username.
no he can be pardoned sans any music, a president has that power
whats wrong with my name?
Rebakka Jones was criminally and polutically charged in Florida recently by DeSantis and obtained whistleblower protections after that fact.
No President would pardon someone when (1) they have not been officially charged and went through the court process and (2) a President does not excercise that power unless a Pardon has been applied for which the conclusion of court proceeding must be exhausted first (No President will Pardon him unless he follows the steps, it's a pipe dream).
Your username is offensive and people may not wish to speak with you since it links the thread to other users names when they may not wish to be affiliated with it because everyone knows you're being a smartass.
again julian assange a western political prisoner for the crime of journalism has proven the great facade of western justice and freedom is all lies
I changed it in iris on iris web platform.

And you work for the federal government, Mike? π

If he's innocent and his rights were violated, then why did flee.
It sounds like to me that you have no idea how the justice system works and drinking the cool-aid. The only evidence anyone needs until he makes a stand in court is the fact he fled. If he is so innocent, then prove it in a court. Again, the fact that he fled proves that he knows he's guilty and the rest is a circus act.

It seems to me that you have no idea about the case. His rights have been violated in the worst possible way for 10 years already. His reputation was deliberately destroyed. His lawyer talks, tapped. A main witness admitted to having lied. Pompeo has had concrete plans made for his murder. The extradition hearings reminded me of trials of the 3rd Reich. You have no idea what you're talking about. He is kept in solitary confinement since 4 years. Former UN special rapporteur on torture,Nils Melzer, did visit him with 2 experts. They say he shows every symptom of white torture. If extradited to the U.S., the trial will be behind closed doors in Virginia. Prosecution is going for 175 years. 5 years for βhackingβ and 170 what we used to know as investigative journalism. Itβs the ultimate threat for a free press. If Assange is extradited - investigative journalism will be a crime.
...and we were talking about Snowden, not Assage (Again, you have not read a comment and started ranting on an etirely different person and subject). Geesh, Do people read anymore or simply blurt off the cuff about stuff nobody is talking about?

In fact, most don't care about Assage while some people so, it's most conspiracy theorist. Again, we were talking about Snowden, not Assage (You're obviously the person who doesn't know what they are talking and you look like a fool responding with Assage comments and links, and he wasn't the subject matter). Smh, Some people.
Oh no. Again. Excuse me.βΊοΈ It's starting to be really embarrassing.
I have to get some UFO's if it goes on like this.

why would he make amends? he is a hero
"make mends" for fleeing because fled the country.
If he's a hero, then why did he flee to a foreign country?
because the us gov is full of corrupt criminals
So he flees to Russia where the government is run by a criminal aristocrat?
I believe he's scared and overreacting. If he's a hero, that would grounds for lenacy and taken into account if convicted.
enemy of my enemy, he exposed the criminal actions of the us gov and so had no other options but russia
