Are you having trouble sleeping? 💤
It could be related to what time you go to bed.
TLDR: go to bed before 10pm
Ayurveda classifies individuals generally into energetic qualities related to 5 elements and specifically into 3 Doshas:
1. Vata - ether + air
2. Pitta - fire + water
3. Kapha - water + earth
Vata
Vata is like the wind. It's main characteristics are dry, light, cold, mobile, subtle, clear, dispersing.
The Vata time of day is 2am-6am and 2pm-6pm.
Vata time is good for meditation and creative/expansive thinking. This is why the sages rise before the sun to take advantage of the magical, pre-dawn energy. If we're not awake, our dreams can be fantastic. It's a good time to try dream yoga. Creatives can tap into the creative energy during the afternoon hours.
Pitta
Pitta is like 🔥. It is hot, sharp, light, spreading and oily.
The pitta time of day is 10am -2pm and 10pm - 2 am.
From 10am-2pm, Pitta time is great for getting things accomplished, organizing and taking action. But from 10pm-2am, pitta energy is best utized for digestion. Have you ever noticed that you feel a burst of energy at 10pm, and cannot get to sleep after that? This is pitta kicking in. If you're up working, the energy is being directed to the mind instead of towards the digestive processes. This can lead to future energetic imbalances.
Kapha
Kapha qualities are heavy, dull, cool, dense, thick, static, oily.
The kapha time of day is from 6am-10am and 6pm to 10 pm. At this time of day you may feel sluggish and very relaxed. This is why Ayurveda recommends rising before 6am. If you don't, you will move into kapha time and your body may feel too heavy to lift out of bed. Ideally, Ayurveda recommends getting up and getting moving with some physical exercises every morning to move through kapha.
In the evening, from 6pm -10 pm, is when Ayurveda recommends winding down for the day. This is kapha time and your body will naturally want to relax. So if you can get to bed before 10pm, you're more likely to quickly fall asleep.
Don't trust, verify on yourself.
Observe your sleep/wake patterns to the Dosha times of day and let me know if any of this rings true to you ✨🙏
