We need non-bitcoin ways of onboarding new users. I tried purple pulling Kelsey Hightower last night on bluesky and he won’t even read nip01 because he saw that nostr is associated with bitcoin. He’s one of several people I’ve tried purple pulling who won’t try it out because of the bitcoin connection. We seriously need to brainstorm ways of getting normies here.

This comment is on point. The conversation is already turning to being all about ending likes and shaka, when most people do not even want an ln wallet. Like it or not, the conversation implies that social acceptance on nostr means embracing the zap and ln wallet or you dont fit in.

@Will might want to think a little deeper on the subject. This whole platform is new, it's a little soon to be narrowing the focus to nostr plus bitcoin or nothing.

Yes. We should be introducing people to nostr itself as a communication protocol first and foremost. Zaps can come at a later time, but mixing them into every single discussion of the protocol is harming the growth. I know it’s unpopular but I really think a nostr client that doesn’t implement zaps and maybe even mutes the word bitcoin could be very beneficial to nostr’s growth. Give normies a safe space to learn about nostr first, because most people don’t want to be forced to learn about bitcoin along side it. In other words purple pilling should not include “zap pilling” unless you’re talking to a known bitcoiner. These should be two separate conversations.
