Some IT people are so far up their own asses they decide to moonlight as devs, getting nothing done, but always troubleshooting. Fucking time sinks 🙄

it all needs to get done. theres a shortage of people that can do it

Troubleshooting is an essential part of development.

I'm not sure there is a correct amount of time to spend troubleshooting, but Its definitely a significant portion of my time. Event it's spent building test cases to reduce troubleshooting time, it still counts.

Trouble shooting + production = dev

I wish more of the devs around here would spend more time troubleshooting, and just generally thinking, to be honest.

Or work with an analyst, designer, or QA specialist.

This too 🫂💜

I will agree partially, while I have always self-hosted and been interested in networking and enterprise hardware, it is/was always a means to an end. I've never really gotten along with people who don't care to learn why things were built the way the were but rather complain about how it didn't work they way they wanted it to.

Coming from 7 years as an engineer in the automotive field, dealing with mechanics that refuse to listen or learn but assert something isn't working how it "should" and point at the black box and say you built it, so you fix it.

This is why I never call myself a developer. I'm a systems administrator that has some bash, web language, and SQL skills.
