Nostr is much more than Bitcoin and Zapping, however we should not play down the symbiotic relationship that the two technologies have together. We should focus on promoting the greatest strengths of Nostr, which are interoperability and social graph portability. Everyone's clients and data all work together. It's beautiful. Now, once you get Nostr and understand it's usefulness, Bitcoin only comes naturally as the next step.

Tried to zap, didn't work, let's go with all the other aspects with Nostr here. :-D

Bitcoin is a monetary foundation. Transactions cannot be reversed or amended, and that's a good thing. It means that everyone is responsible and accountable for what they do, and the only way to change account balances is by making another transaction to balance the books.

Nostr is an information foundation. Notes cannot be deleted, or edited, and that's a good thing. It means that everyone is responsible and accountable for what they post. The only way to change something that is posted is by posting again with the correction.

They are both building a solid foundation for our civilization, one in terms of capital movement, and the other in terms of information sharing. And both work perfectly exactly as designed.

Notes can be deleted and edited if relays honor the delete request and if clients show the edited note 👀

Big if, true

Many allow delete requests, but I think only Amethyst has edits.

Hmm, I think that's a weakness, not a strength. Maybe that's just me.

I would be ok with that as long as the original is kept whole and visible. That would make the edit a correction, and a separate post. Deletions I would also not really want, although an "ignore me" flag might be useful. That way someone could regret a post and flag something as "ignore" and clients who had the setting to ignore posts with those flags wouldn't show them. But I still consider it important that people take responsibility for what they post and be held accountable for it.

Yeah, I like this approach.

One can edit or delete, but it should be shown up in the end result. Like highlighted or overstriked text, not just leaving no marks behind. Viewers should get the idea that the note has been altered and have option to view the original version (hint for devs).

When I am following myself in Fediverse, the first version is relayed to Nostr, but I haven't seen the corrected version yet, which is quite ok.

Deletes are tricky because not all relays honor the request. Because of this, we always joke that you can't delete, because there's a high chance that your deleted note still exists somewhere out there.
