if I understand correctly, he successfully rescued bluesky out of Twitter but they aren’t apart of block and Jack has nothing to do with the spun out company… nostr being bitcoin inspired does have some crossover with things block/tbd is doing so he and many others from there are here, but I believe he is one of the 2k beta testers over there too.

but bluesky is branle… fiatjaf isn’t going back to that demo client to integrate atproto repos

to flip that so it’s clear… if atproto is successful, when the protocol is production ready, someone will build a megaclient that might let you follow on both, or someone might add to the protocol bridges between, but bluesky is to demo atproto, maybe they will go back at some point and add nostr to compete with other clients but success for at proto is really that bluesky goes the way of branle not that they have to do that heavy lifting themselves.

Bluesky was funded as an independent entity when I was CEO. Twitter can’t direct them. Goal was to build a protocol for social media. Nostr is that and more, and taking a different development model and path. TBD’s web5 provides some similar infrastructure, speficially to decentralize/make permission-less DNS and Certificate Authorities. I imagine there will be cross over and sharing/stealing of ideas between all 3. And everyone is better for that.

Except Mastadon. I feel the 3 above means the slow death of current fediverse. But, if they stick around, great! More experiments the better. One of them will get it right.

ah was always independent, thanks for clearing that up. 🤙

are you on a board or hold an advisory titled at bluesky still?

This is great news! I’d love to find out how to help contribute and will be watching some of the Nostrica sessions to learn more.

Thanks for your support and influence into open protocols, systems, and the people who make things happen.

@jack, We'll see what happens, but honestly, I don't see the current Fediverse going away any time soon.

Mastodon is decentralised authoritarianism - got out as soon as I can

Jack, thanks for clearing this up, glad you are here

I did not know about the permission-less dns… huge!!

There’s a great podcast with maybe #[5] on We Study Billionaires with #[6] that is incredible. It’s where I first heard about it and it really sparked some ideas about the future infrastructure and what our world could look like with us managing our digital identities like that. Go take a listen, it’s totally worth it!

Thank you for posting!!!!

What is web5? I think I lost it on web3

Web 5 is a meme, a good meme… all the people trying to hype “web 3” as something of value… Jack and company just said they are skipping web4 and going straight to web5, Bitcoin is the signal

Do you have any influence or control over nostr?

There is no CEO of Nostr, like there is no CEO of Bitcoin… nostr is not a company;it is a protocol that anyone can build on… well know people could try to influence but someone can always start anew…

I heard Craig Wright was the CEO of Nostr 🤔😆

Nice meme

I guarantee there are ppl in positions of influence over the protocol, I’m just asking Jack if he’s one of those ppl.

definitely through being a benefactor of bounties he drives some of direction, but you could put up a bounty, and if you suggest stuff to devs in a considerate way, or better yet pull request things yourself, you too can influence the direction of the protocol and the clients and relays that implement it.
