You must not have looked at all if you think that. As recently as 2018, tariffs were implemented on washing machines. Prices increased initially, but LG and Samsung opened plants in the US, and a few years later prices came down and were lower than before in some cases.

Every other country has tariffs, so they must not have gotten the memo that tariffs = bad.
