The open web is dead. Welcome to the never closing nostrverse! (Mind you I’m paying over US$120 per year for these lousy losers to lock me behind a sign-in wall)

We need a nostr version of meetup

100%, it makes so much sense

💯

I was planning to focus on only conferences but there’s a large overlap with meetups so there’s an opportunity there. nostr:npub1nxy56ame2gfnfj6fjylzxwq7r94phvgwt037mmvwr60qsqlaseksswlnxl and others made something meetup-like for a Nostr hackathon project a few months ago but I haven’t seen anything about that since. That was before I created the NIP-52 calendar event draft proposal.

I see. I wish I could write a code 😁

Yeah. I make all nostr hk Meetup event as a nostr note for future nostr Meetup app

Meestr

I got into #BTC years ago because of #MeetUp

I joined a group of #BTC miners, when bitcoin wasn't a thing yet, the leader of the group would rent a hotel room or a villa, for us to go mining from, bring your own laptop, everyone chips in for the #foodstr like one will order pizza, another will order chicken wings, drinks, or chip in, but I was the youngest, barely a curious, nerdy teenager who loved to surf strange stuff like bitcoin back then, so they treated me like a unicorn. Looking back, #MeetUp set me up. I also joined a travel group back then, #MeetUp to me was to join interest groups, never for hook-ups, like some people did, I guess, but I've seen a lot of interest groups fold down, no active members, leaders going inactive, etc so consistency should be a thing for a meet up group to thrive

We just need hash tag #meetupstr

I think the biggest issue is forever associating your npub with a face and location. Some people will never want to do that, but still want to participate.

And YouTube and SoundCloud.

And worse of all, they can’t even properly communicate this to visitors of the site, who may not realize they now need to log in to see meetup times and locations. Abhorrent.
