most people don't really understand what a billion or a trillion dollars is

they assume because schools are bad that they are underfunded

or that if the state runs a deficit it's because the rich don't pay their fair share

or that public costs run 10-1000x what citizens and businesses would spend for the same or better (or any) results

there used to be nightly news stories about how the gov spent $50 million to study ketchup or whatever

average citizen has no idea how badly he’s being robbed
