I'm pretty sure that "the halvening" was first coined as a phrase for Dogecoin's halving, but then it was adopted by Bitcoiners and now it's tough to trace the etymology.
I cringe every time I read it.

In a recent btctorg thread 'halvening' is traced back to Aug 2012, that should be way before doge. I like it, because it sounds odd and resembles 'happening', which the halvening is. Member last halvening's zoom parties? I member 😁
