The way information spreads through the #nostr network is not similar enough to #bittorrent. In some sense, there isn't even a Nostr network. There are many fragmented, disconnected networks. The fact that notes don't spread between these disjointed networks, when someone connects to both at the same time, is a profound missed opportunity. Forcing everyone into a small number of centralized relays if they want to be able to see everything is the opposite of what I originally thought Nostr was trying to achieve. Feeling a little disenfranchised about Nostr. If the above is true, then why shouldn't I? #asknostr

Sure, you can control you data (nobody can author notes on your behalf, or ban you from signing new notes).

But if everyone is centralizing into a very small number of relays (if you want to be where everyone is you'll have to), then these relays will, just like big tech, have too much influence, and yes, they could silence you here on Nostr.

But wait, I can just use a different relay then because that's the power of Nostr, right?

Yes, except almost everyone is using the centralized relays so you'll be in a secluded network with barely anyone over there.

Nostr needs to do a better job at being a singular (not a fragmented) Twitter clone.

The main reason Nostr is "decentralized" right now is because hardly anybody uses it.

If it were to scale up to millions of people, either everybody would be on the same few centralized relays (goodbye decentralization and censhorship resistance, the entire reason Nostr even exists), or people would be fragmented into a multitude of different networks and not see each other.

Nostr really needs to sit and think about this one fundamental thing it's currently completely failing at.
