Did you just try to make it sound casual to find a skull while cleaning your house?
i put it there
i found it in the woods
what isnt casual about it
are you not an appreciator of nature?
do you not bring cool sticks home? leaves to press? have you ever made a dandelion flower crown? find a feather while hiking?
i went to visit a friend once in the catskills
as i was leaving she said: oh! i have something for you
she had found the skin a snake had shed & thought i wanted it

Indeed I appreciate nature and collect keepsakes from travels. In the moment, the phrasing of finding a skull while doing chores sounded a bit absurd (discovering an unknown skull would usually be alarming), and my comment was just meant to reflect the comedy of that absurdity.
I hadn’t considered the notion that you were genuine in curiosity, and that my note could be interpreted as mockery.
If you do find out the species, I would love to learn of it as well!
