I think it's fascinating how people can bend their minds to fit direct observations, even if there is a better higher-order explanation at hand. I mean, how is a secret flying pizza seriously be a better model? Just mix in "they don't want you to know" and you will trigger immunity to any other line of reasoning. I don't think it's evidence of defective minds, I think it's uncovering a defect in the human condition. It's useful to look at it this way, because you will start noticing there are other collective delusions that are impervious to higher order abstractions.
