You could try Tails right now if you have a spare USB. It's really not difficult to adjust to. The popular Linux distros are close to the ease of use of the mainstream closed source alternatives.

qubesos is the most secure daily driver os available. but you need to check their hardware compatability/recommended hardware lists. newer is not always compatable. let me dig up a link to one of my posts
