Iβve heard burying forks with the tines up can keep them away.
Iβve always seen cats hate the smell of citrus; maybe a citronella plant or other citrus scented plant can help?

Yeah, an old lady told me about that at my local hardware store when I was looking for the repellent sprays. I have some chicken wire, so I think what I'm going to do this evening is lay it down flat on the bed. I'm going to have to go get some like garden staples or something like that, but then use wire cutters to get every few little bits of chicken wire and face it upward and make it pointy.
Apparently the goal is just not to make the soil soft and inviting and easy for them to scratch in, so this will be that.
