By continuing to work their jobs and pay their taxes those those asset managers and analysists are contributing thousands of dollars a year towards the Russian state, and thus to their attempt at genociding Ukraine. An estimated 10% or more of the entire Russian GDP is being spent on the invasion. You simply can't escape supporting it if you continue to stay in Russia and work. And with those kinds of careers, they probably do have a real choice and could leave Russia like so many others have.

Unless your contacts are doing something useful to stop the war, like sabotage or espionage, they should be thought of as criminals. And they – and the Russian economy in general – should be considered valid military targets. It would be completely ok for Ukraine to send a few drones to their offices to fuck up the financial side of the Russian economy.

War is shit. But sometimes you are forced to take a side, and forced to make hard choices. Don't chose evil.

Heh, good timing.

wow

I gave two Bitcoin talks today in Kyiv, and both talks got interrupted by air raid alarms. Not a big deal – we were in the basement of a co-working place next to the designated shelter room. But it goes to show how often they go off.

Honestly people usually ignore them. Kyiv is about 3 million people. 3 million minutes is 5.7 years. So once you've spent 13 minutes in shelters, collectively you've spent an entire human lifetime.

The lost sleep isn't worth it when an attack probably "only" kills one or two people on average.

Well put.

I traveled with my family to Tel Aviv and the air strike warnings went off a bunch. Amazing how locals mostly barely moved.

You get used to it really quickly. I've been outdoors at a cafe with families with young children, and watched at no-one did anything at all.

Certainly there are cases where the danger is higher and people would take more action. But fortunately I've never experienced it myself.

Sad to know there are warmongers among some of the earliest, well recognized Bitcoin developers, but I guess Bitcoin is really for everyone, including assholes

So I'm a warmonger because I might get killed by a Russian cruise missile?

No, because you’re cheering on the bombing of likely innocent people who have no control over what their leader does, whilst accusing them of being criminals for staying in their own country and making a living. I wouldn’t expect my family and friends to uproot from England because the British Govt is assisting Israeli Zionists in genocide of Palestinians because they have no control over the Govt, of which both sides seem to be in opposition to most of the rest of the country. Nor do I see you leaving the US after countless illegal wars and coups conducted by the US Govt. This shit mainly happens because of the fiat money system and this is also why the average person has no say in the matter. I cannot condone the arbitrary killing of innocent people no matter which side they’re on. But you seem to be gleefully nonchalant about it

Says the guy who supports the Zionist genocidal maniacs

Says the guy who supports the Zionist genocidal maniacs

I can tell you know NOTHING about military law.

Please do the world a favour and go volunteer for Kursk. And not on my tax dime.

I'm making a moral argument, not a legal argument.

A wildly immoral argument, unless you want you and me targeted for our governments' many crimes of aggression.

I haven't been a lawful military target in over a decade, and I don't want my sons to /ever/ be.

We have Ius Gentium and various Conventions built up over centuries for very good reasons, but the 2020s Western Establishment is trying very hard to destroy international law. And your post was repeating their talking points.

I disagree with the whole process that led to this war, but the RFAF have been killing 1 civilian to 8 combatants, according to the Ukrainian MoD's own figures.

The last time a Western army waged a war that clean was Falklands 1982.

I wonder when will Zelenski's assassination attempt take place. I just can't fathom that demon escaping from this mess.

There's been reportedly dozens of attempts on his life by Russia. Fortunately they've all failed so far.

Nothing the US has done in my lifetime comes close to what Russia is doing right now. It's just not comparable.

Be lucky you live in a sufficiently ethical county that you don't have to make such hard choices.

That said, when Canada's government went crazy with covid vaccines, I refused to comply and left Canada for months until they reversed course. Staying and complying wouldn't have been ethical, as I was in a position where I could refuse.

No comment on whether or not I paid all my taxes...

Its not remotely comparable to what we did in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Not remotely.

40:1 (West in Iraq) versus 8:1 (RFAF in Ukraine).

And then there's what we're funding in Gaza...

There is nothing ethical about my government or yours. They're not better than even Putin. By the numbers, they're worse!

“What we're funding in Gaza” 😂

Gaza is the aggressor there. And the high rate of civilian deaths is an intentional strategy by Hamas.

Literally hundreds of IDF soldiers have lost their lives in the past few months for the sake of Gazans. A lot less would be dead if Israel focused purely on winning.

The war in Gaza began in the 1930s, with the Haganah, Irgun, Lehi and Stern Gang killing Allied soldiers even as Hitler began the Shoah.

Both my grandfathers served in that war, while Zionist leaders sunbathed by day and lynched British soldiers by night.

Watching any speech by Gvir or Smolrich will show you that that moral orientation lives on, but now with my tax dollars.

Gee, I wonder why might Jews have been pissed off at the British back then...

What about putting Hitler and Mussolini in power, like Ghedaffi, Hussein and many others to their agenda their destroying those countries completely? How many military bases the USA have in Germany and Italy today? To what? Export "democracy"? What about Latin america and those ethernal interference on every aspect of live by the USA? And then this individual comes talk about morality of russian workers collarating with this war? Take your military bases out of my country and stop forcing me to use your shitcoin then come talk about morality.

As for the Russian forces civilean death count... Just today I visited someone at the children's hospital that Russia intentionally bombed.

You're delusional if you think Russia is fighting a "clean" war.

You can't see that you use two weights and two measures on that, and talking about morality reveals the incongruence of your moral values.

This is the same argument that Osama bin Laden used to justify attacks on Americans … by arguing that U.S. civilians were complicit in their government's actions.

Does your government represent you? I suspect most people would say no.

Meh. Facts are different.

If the US was doing what Russia was doing, US taxpayers would be guilty too. Fortunately for US citizens they aren't.

And yes, your government certainly does represent you to a point. Even in a dictatorship you still have a vote in many ways.

Ok that explains a lot. Since you identify with your government, it's hard to see it in a bad light. I mean you wouldn't consider yourself a criminal.

Like I said, I left Canada for something a lot less evil than what Russia is doing. I'm willing to take action to avoid being on the side of evil. Everyone has a responsibility to do so.

Oh, let’s see:

Who is the only country to kill hundreds of thousands of unarmed civilians (including women and children) with nuclear weapons?

Who made up the claim of “weapons of mass destruction” … and how hundreds of thousands of civilians died?

There’s a long list, if you care to look. I’m not sure how you can claim they haven’t done the same thing.

Japan was fighting total war. Just like Russia, nuking their cities was a perfectly valid way to destroy their economy. And as it happens, it convinced them to surrender.

You know, the firebombings actually killed more people... Funny you don't mention that...

As for Iraq, it was Iraqi extremists who killed the most Iraqis, by far: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casualties_of_the_Iraq_War

I guess you’re right. The USA killed just as many unarmed civilians with firebombings and they did with nuclear weapons.

And you’re saying that, after the US destabilized the country, that other people killed civilians too?

It’s interesting how people always seem to find ways to justify the killing of those other people. They always seem to deserve it somehow.

It has to be more complex than that. If you’re American (and paying taxes) that makes you partly responsible for all of the federal government’s crimes.

I tend to think of taxpayers more as victims than complicit.

What about paying taxes to the USA state, the biggest terrorist organization in the world, and supporting its multiple wars to support the robbery in the world by imposing its shitcoin, backed by the military force?

The world cannot simply be divided into good and evil

Don't chose evil

Context: Iran just launched the largest missile attack in human history against Israel.

Obviously, Israel is allowed to fight back. And Iran is actively trying to get nukes themselves, while actively promoting the genocide of Jews. Israel probably doesn't have much longer to defeat Iran before a few million Israeli's could be killed.

If Iranians want to live, they should be overthrowing their government. Like Russia, they're ultimately responsible and they have the power to stop this.

Iran caused almost no damage with the attack. Your response was to attack Iran with nuclear bombs. That seems a bit unbalanced.

Iran attempted to kill large numbers of Israelis with hundreds of deadly weapons. It was a stroke of luck that Israel was able to deal with the threat effectively, mostly with the help of unexpected allies.

This is why attempted murder is still a serious crime. You don't go free just because you failed due to the difficult and heroic actions of others.

Iran is also getting close to obtaining nuclear weapons, which they certainly will use against Israel. And Iran is funding many other groups attacking Israel, including Hamas. Iran is also providing weapons to Russia to use against Ukraine, and that'll likely spread to other parts of Europe if Russia isn't defecated.

It is perfectly reasonable for Israel to put an end to this, now, before more Israeli's and orhers are murdered. Iranians should do the job first if they want to live.
