Google experimenting with micropayments on the web as an alternative to the advertisement model
Discussion
Let me guess, they didn't use zaps 😂
too late, the jig is up hfsp google
Wen gashu
Sadly Offerwall is not really about micropayments. It's about generating more ad revenue from engaged users by showing them rewarded ads (modal that can be closed after 5 seconds) or asking them to submit a list of interests so that advertisers can target even better.
They also allow something known as "PUR", where you pay a monthly fee instead of seeing ads.
If only there was a way to do micropayments privately
BREAKING: CASHU TO BE ACQUIRED BY GOOGLE
I have been using lightning for payments for a few online services and I have to say it is so freeing to just zap a website and get a service without needing to sign up. In fact I would gladly pay a few sats to read an article every once in a while. And as cashu grows in adoption it will be even better than lightning. I just hate signing up for stuff. It is annoying. And logging in to things is a hassle. Just let me give you some value and you give me some value back. It’s as simple as cash just on the internet. I love it. It just sucks that the echo system is so small.
story: the other day a friend of mine signed up for a service to buy concert ticket, and of course one of the data to input was his home address:
ME: " look at this, why do they need to know your home address to buy a ticket concert? Ridicolous"
FRIEND: "No but it is for my safety in case something goes wrong"
ME: "in what way sorry?"
FRIEND: "Well for example if I am deceived by theticket vendor I am protected"
ME: "????"
