What is this odd trend of judging people by the books they read ? as if reading were an act of endorsement and some representation of their morals and beliefs rather than exploration?such a shallow reactionary mindset turning literature into some stupid moral purity test, The most intellectual people read widely even when they disagree because true understanding comes from engaging with different perspectives to sharpen your own , not fearing them. When books become political landmines, we lose the freedom to think critically. Let’s keep literature away from Wokism

unless ur reading Vitalik’s auto biography. it’s ok to mock someone for that 🤣

Mocking is fun and fine , I was referring to assuming someone who read karl max is a communist and so on , or banning books , or if the author did some BS in their life reading his unrelated work is some direct endorsement of the BS he did

i understood, was just being glib.

I read more marx than most marxists for my master’s thesis.

i don’t know if it was more painful reading or more of an unimpressive letdown

marx got 2 things right:

1) value emanates from labor - PoW natural law

2) collective is primary to individual - meaning without dependence first, no one could be independent

everything else is complete gnostic speculative fantasy

No two people read the same book.

Reading is best done in silence. You read Marx to understand why so many people fall for his ideas, not to mention that most commies haven't read Marx in the first place. As for bitcoiners, most have read it and that's precisely why they are into bitcoin.

I think it’s because we’ve switched into some sort of tribal mindset, it’s like team sports but these conversations are much more than just black and white or blue team vs red team. It’s shallow thinking and basically everyone is or has been guilty of it in today’s age.

If you want to be able to get your point across in a meaningful way, you’re probably better off knowing exactly what the person you’re conversing or debating with believes and thinks.

It’s great to be well versed in what you believe in, but I think learning and knowing what they believe in is what gives you the real opportunity to get your point across.

💯💯 agreed . Identity politics and superficial tribal mindsets are some of the worst mind viruses

Yeeeup and it goes for both sides really. It’s easy to fall into the trap, you’ve got no other choice but to check yourself once in a while.

Doing things like what you mentioned about diving in and learning about opposing views is a pretty good way to avoid this. Maybe that’s what highly intelligent people recognize?
