What's your preferred setup? I use a bare-metal optiplex but I might try out the proxmoxbox at my new apartment.

I use the proxmox iso for prod & am showing today at my workshop how to install Debian first. With this setup, you can have a gui instead of doing everything in terminal or remote.
Makes for an easier learning curve for the technically challenged at a minor performance cost. Worth the tradeoff for first-timers imo

I'm used to CLI at this point, but that is a good option that would have saved me weeks of frustration a few years back.
