welcome to nostr! this protocol is not "crypto based". it does have a large bitcoin user presence, however there is no direct need to use bitcoin just to use nostr. the two do have a beautiful symbiotic relationship though! i never used ssb, but there are a lot of old ssb users lurking around these parts.

yeah, if anything it's pretty annoying how on the default feeds bitcoin is mentioned every other post, hence the question 😉 i'm an anarchist/communist and dislike capitalism, but i hate the censorship enabled by centralized networks even more, so here i am

I agree. We just need more people, their conversations, and then the content here will grow. Someone had to be first though. Bitcoiners are the first group of people here. Bitcoiners built Nostr because ultimately they recognize that you can't have the freedom to transact without the freedom to communicate and what's wrong with traditional or legacy social media.
