Is scuba diving really about sensory deprivation?

Makes sense

I like that part of it but also the movement in 3D is cool :)

For me it’s to see cool fishies

Not necessarily. You still need to check depth gauge. Things can go terribly wrong if you start chasing fish to the bottom.

Chase sounds like feeding the senses?

Once I was leading a scuba dive, one guy disappeared. Intuitively I went back to the last starfish we saw, there he was, mesmerized by the starfish ⭐🐠 Thankfully, not a fish one needs to chase.

Yes, definitely sensory experience 😀

Good instinct. Was the divers name Amanda by chance? Just in case this is a time travel scenario I need to be aware of starfish on w future dive.

That goes into my bucket list, why not? 🤿🐟

That said, I haven't met a bitcoiner in real life yet despite being in a very tech savvy area. Fortunately nostr is bringing us together. Looking forward to joining a Bitcoin & nostr event soon.

scuba diving forces you to breathe consciously

most relaxing activity ever imho

beautiful underwater sound

fantastic views

i dont see how you'd describe it as sensory dep.

what led you to this question?

How a friend explained it to me yesterday and felt like the best reason I’ve ever heard to try it.

Descent pace sounded like a healthy balance to life as well.

It's about many things. Spearfishing, photography, caving, wrecks, exploring .. not drowning !

When you do lots of diving, there's real Zen in neutral buoyancy through breath control

Sensory deprivation through hearing perhaps, or talking without extra equipment

Quite a spectrum of experiences and purpose with with scuba diving. Being surrounded by the vastness of the ocean has to be one of the most humbling experiences a human can have.
