With red meat the biggest complaint would be it will raises you cholesterol. That is about the only thing I have ever heard.

However, high LDL is associated with lower all cause mortality. Consequently, low LDL <70 is strongly associated with higher all cause mortality. Given the 2 positions in the following study. The safer bet would be to have high LDL cholesterol. (see figure 2)

Hence, eating red meat does not have any detrimental effect as far as the red herring of cholesterol.

That U shaped chart says a lot. Looks like the “safe” range if you will is around 110-190. Then the jump goes up on both sides. Lowest risk 120-160.
