Noteworthy to me is that Bishop Vasquez of Austin was given jurisdiction over the diocese of Tyler. Bishop Vasquez is a fairly conservative bishop who, for example, has been very friendly to the Latin Mass even in the wake of the Traditiones Custodes motu proprio.

If it were just about the politics, it would make more sense to pass the diocese off to a more liberal bishop.
