I think that the bigger picture here is to push people onto electricity for everything , whilst at the same time , creating what are known as "smart-grids" .
Smart grids along with "smart-metres" allow unprecented control of how much energy you consume , and not only that , but what you consume it on , what time of the day you run certain types of utilities . In essence in will enable cental planners to alter human behaviour with regard to energy consumption .
Dencentralised sources that can be stockpiled like wood and coal or petroleum and diesel , whatever , enable people to exist outside of this system of behavioural control , and that is one the real reasons that there is a war against them at the moment, they are soverign sources of energy.
Perhaps things like solar energy are soverign too , but without batteries etc , it's not so easy to transport and store that energy , and also to trade it to others . Unless of course you hook it up to a Bitcoin mining rig or something .
