You aren't dumb. It's their rule that's dumb, which is why the onus is most definitely on them to display it clearly enough when you book.

I mean, if there's something obscure we need to know, like false teeth not allowed or 25m swimming badge required, you'd expect to be told automatically before they take your money.

I suggest giving them a load of shit for this - on the phone is best - and foul up their Twitter page and review sites too. At the very least they'll probably give you some travel vouchers you can use towards a flight.

I think I spent about 6 hours with support today, they must've been pretty tired of me by the end I think! But I've also done my own head in in the process and not sure if it will pay off eventually or not.

Mostly with online chat support though. Was on the phone for a while but after the best part of an hour, mostly on hold and getting transferred, I realised it was probably sending my phone bill through the roof calling abroad.

Ok yes sanity is valuable also. Still, the world could be a very different place by the time your vouchers expire. You could also try flogging them on ebay or Satscrap I suppose.
