Well, what I have heard, is that non-Bitcoin/Tech/ people are often overwhelmed with such content here (especially when first booting up the client), and find it difficult to find their way as a normie, who doesn’t want to participate in those discussions.

A lot of the newbies joining will just think that this is not meant for normies, and that’s it really. Having to explain relays etc.

yeah it got to be something a bit more specialized.

I see a lot of interesting tech discussions but in the end it’s always you gotta figure it all out and there’s a million ways to mess it up

A lot of really smart non technical people went to Bluesky to escape the noise from Twitter

I think Nostr has strength in focusing on local business context and meetups

But if you’re selling the whole Bitcoin dream I am certain that the whales are actually in those closed expensive subscription sites talking to other billionaires so there isn’t much trickle down at the moment

Really hard to build hype that way with people that have to earn it all

I’m happy tho! I actually got a node running. It’s just finding a way to USE it to create commerce or have get togethers would be great.

Not gonna replace work anytime soon tho. That’s for sure!

Hmm yes I've heard similar feedback indeed 🤔

I think some usability testing is in order in the group of normies, because some understanding of the main drop-off point would be really resourceful

Content suggestion algo that filters out everything bitcoin related? 🙈😂

start with lists support (listr.lol), and in-app list browsing + managing

people will create lists of different kinds of content and content creators, and it could be cool, if i could see what lists you follow and add them

Im pretty sure you can already import lists I make publicly, or follow lists, i. Nostrudel? 🤔

Anyway not in Damus.

Does listr. lol have the ability to rate or up/down vote lists? Like reddit posts or something?

hmm, it’s something discussed with nostr:npub1zuuajd7u3sx8xu92yav9jwxpr839cs0kc3q6t56vd5u9q033xmhsk6c2uc months ago, he would have more resourceful thoughts on this than i can currently give you.

i was mainly discussing this whole exclusively from damus’s point of view

Ah gotcha! List support is prob somewhere in the humongous github roadmap 🙈

🤗 looking forward to it

😂😂💯

Just out of curiosity. Don't you think that's kind of an issue though? Only thinking about it from one client's perspective? Like not everybody uses Damus.

So while you've maybe solved a problem for iPhone users there's still a shit ton of Android users hanging around in the Darkness.

I'm not saying this to be an asshole. I'm just going to be direct but why don't why aren't you guys on the same page and focus on one thing at a time instead of going in different directions?

Well, developers have different views on what's important. That's one of the main value of the protocol, anyone can build whatever they want. This enables an open market and competion, the market will decide what approaches are viable.

Yeah and I can already tell you that most people don't use Reddit Style stuff. That's kind of the issue on facing here. If you put micro blogging and internet forums side by side the majority of people are going to choose micro blogging that's just the way it is now.

I already know we're not priority. I already know there's going to be a shit ton of Twitter like Noster clients. But what about people who like internet forums are we just going to be forgotten about?

Like it could seriously just be one guy making a stick ass Reddit Style no stir client that's all I care about. It doesn't have to be every developer doing Reddit Style.

I just want to be able to use no stir as well and enjoy it also. Like the free speech is there that's awesome. But everything else isn't (forum stuff) and I don't think it's considered a important or a priority at all to anyone either.

That's the only reason why I'm so vocal on this

Bitcoin topic should be turned off by default on clients. Or at least on one client if you're trying to appeal to normies. Like I could give two fucks about Bitcoin

When I first joined, I was like what the fuck is everybody talking about why is everybody just talking about Bitcoin I don't get it?

Humans will take the easiest way out of every situation and scenario. The moment you make something difficult for them they don't want to do the work. This is why I say having a client that automatically has Bitcoin and cryptocurrency turned off by default is a good idea because nobody wants to do that shit by themselves.

I'm not saying you need to cater to these people. I'm saying they're fucking lazy. I see it all the time people bitch about customizing their own feed and being their own moderator like it's a chore.

People need to get out of this mentality that everything needs to be handed to them.
